Our talented and hardworking Carers enjoyed a day of celebration at the Village Hotel Walsall on Monday 5th December 2016, soaking up the festive atmosphere and indulging on a delicious three course meal – turkey, roast potatoes let’s not say any more…

The room was tastefully decorated in a grandiose Mardi Grais theme, much to the appreciation of all those present.  The setting was perfect for our festive celebration, and although we see each other throughout the year, on the day we celebrated together under one roof as a Capstone Midlands Family.

This year had a huge focus on recognition of all the hard work and commitment from our Carers.   The day saw a brilliant awards ceremony and Carers that had devoted the last five years or more to fostering with Capstone were awarded with a beautifully presented crystal award and a certificate for long service.

Regional Director, Sara Chambers-Ross said: “We take the opportunity at the end of each year, to acknowledge and thank all carers for their hard work, drive and passion.  You all are extraordinary people who give the children and young people you support  love, opportunities and brighter futures. We look forward to you all receiving awards in the coming years.”

This was followed by a wonderfully delivered inspirational speech by our guest-speaker Michelle Mills Porter.  She shared her amazing story of how she survived the Tsunami recalling the extraordinary events of the day and the weeks that followed.  She wanted to highlight the ‘Power of You’ and that in the face of difficult and challenging circumstances that we’re all able to do amazing things.  Her experiences demonstrated how we’re able to help others and make us stronger individuals.  Thank you, Michelle, for sharing your story

Families in Basingstoke are being urged to consider becoming foster carers after it is revealed that more than 1000 children were referred for fostering in Hampshire last year.

Capstone Foster Care will be holding a fostering information day at Basingstoke’s Citizen Advice Centre on 26th January between 10am-5pm. The event will allow Basingstoke residents to find out more about fostering.

1097 individual Children and Young People were referred to Capstone for fostering in Hampshire last year, with a further 124 sibling groups also seeking foster care. Capstone Foster Care are inviting families that have a spare room, the time and patience to become foster carers to stop by on Thursday 26th January for more information.

Hampshire residents Kirsty and Paul became approved foster carers in 2013.

Kirsty commented:

“I wanted a new challenge and we felt fostering would help make a difference. We have learnt a lot and grown as a family over the five years we have had children in our care. It puts a different perspective on life and reminds us how lucky we and our children are.”

Steve Hunt, Regional Director at Capstone Foster Care, commented:

“Capstone Foster Care has been based and working across Hampshire for the past ten years and has a solid history of making sustainable foster placements where young people make excellent progress. Despite that, we still need more foster families in North Hampshire to meet the demand for placements in this region. We look forward to meeting with residents in Basingstoke on the 26th.”

As requested by the carers and the children, we had a change this year from our usual festivities and arranged a party for the children, greatly enjoyed by them all, plus the staff and carers! We had lots of activities – face painting, cake decorating, Christmas tree decoration making, placemat colouring, disco and karaoke plus a visit from Santa in his grotto! After all the fun, the children were re-energised with tasty pizzas. Many thanks to foster carers, Sharon and Steve for organising the hall and the DJ and to their daughter for doing the face painting. Also a massive thanks to Santa and to all the staff and their friends and family for helping and contributing to the success of the day– a great example of teamwork!
