st georgesCarer Helen has been fostering with Capstone since 2010 and lives in Birmingham. She has looked after a sibling group since August 2011 and because of the interests of one of her LAC she became involved with the St Georges under 10s football team that are based in North Birmingham there vision is to provide a development club to bridge the gap between grassroots and Academy football.

As Helen said this season has seen great success with the boys achieving wins and draws, manager Ray is certain the boys will continue to achieve more success in the future by the boys showing great determination and dedication to the team. They play around the surrounding areas of Birmingham, Lichfield, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Solihull.

Helen commented “The start of the season they were battling teams that had been together a few years getting beat 6-1 and in a few months they have come together as a team with great determination scores are now 4-3. They have fought hard and other coaches are amazed at how they’ve come on. Big thank you to capstone foster care for sponsoring them and the hard work put in by coaches and parents”

Capstone wanted to provide support to Helen and the children as we feel it is important to recognise the dedication of the carers to their children but also to celebrate the success and achievements of our looked after children. We have supported the Local Football Club by sponsoring their team’s kit for the new season, Helen would like to say a special thank you to all of the parents and coaches that continue to motivate the boys to continue to achieve success and stay motivated and dedicated to the team. For the boys themselves well done for the recent wins and keep up the good work.

Capstone Foster Care South East held its Foster Carer New Year & Awards Party at the Tower Hotel (on the bank of the Thames with fabulous views of the river and Tower Bridge) on 27 January 2017. This was the 5th time we had celebrated at the Tower Hotel.

For the 150+ foster carers and Capstone staff in attendance it was a memorable evening with a wonderfully relaxed and celebratory atmosphere, great food, and music that had everyone dancing the night away.

We were especially pleased to have Richard Compton-Burnett, CEO, and Alison Sargent, Group Operations Director, join us and give their support. Richard’s thank you to the foster carers for all their commitment, and hard work in providing such excellent care and supporting children and young people to achieve such brilliant outcomes, was greatly appreciated.

The highlight of the evening was Richard presenting awards to foster carers for long and loyal service (10+ years) and for making a contribution over and above for the young people they are looking after. As none of the foster carers knew they were going to receive an award, it was a fantastic surprise!

Well done and congratulations to Rizwana and Lloyd, Zufan and Tesfay, Meron and Sammy, Kelly and Victor, Kelly and Jason, and Sharon and David.

Many thanks to John Pilcher SSW who was our roving photographer for the evening, and to Mary Wheeler (Office Coordinator at Dartford office) without whom none of it would have happened and who worked tirelessly to make sure it was a huge success.

Please submit your recipes  to Rochelle and Adam at Capstone so that we can put together a Capstone Cookbook! Here are some more details:

Each year we take part in raising awareness of fostering through various small projects.  For 2017 we are planning a cookbook, with a fostering theme.  I am looking for recipes’ that have a meaning within your cakefamily, whether it be a special meal that are cooked for special occasions, comfort food for those times when we need a pick-me-up or a special dish you may cook for a young person’s first night in placement.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone with a recipe that they are happy to submit to me, with a list of ingredients and it’s method of cooking or baking.  I would also ask for you to let me know why this dish is important to you or the story behind it.

I am looking for submissions from foster carers, looked after children and young people and birth children.  A whole range of recipes will be considered, from starters, to main meals and puddings, health options and those that may be a little more indulgent.  All recipes’ need to be original due to copy write, so if your recipe is from a cookery book, please let me know so we can change it slightly to make it original.

All recipes can be e-mailed to me Adam & Rochelle

Good luck we look forward to seeing them.
