Capstone Foster Care Blog

On 12th December, it was time for Capstone to reward and celebrate the foster carers in the South West Region. A sumptuous Christmas lunch was enjoyed by our carers and staff to show Capstone’s appreciation of all the hard work and dedication to fostering our carers have provided the children this year. The event  gave our Area manager, Scott Wickers, to present some long service awards to our carers who have completed five and ten years’ service dedicated to fostering with Capstone.

Jules has been fostering with Capstone for ten years and has provide a home, love and support for many young people over the years and we really value all of Jules hard work and commitment to her role. Here is what Jules had to say:

“Thank you so very much to you and Capstone for my flowers etc. I feel very valued again”

Anthony and Heather have been fostering with Capstone for five years now, again they have helped to support young people with complex needs very successfully. Heather said:

“I can’t believe it’s been five years! Where has the time gone, I thought is was three. Thank you to Capstone for our gifts we’re so happy”.

Our carers really enjoyed the lunch and appreciated being valued by the Capstone team for all they do. Here is what another carer had to say about the event:

“We just wanted to thank you and Capstone for such a lovely Christmas lunch. Thank you also for the Christmas tree with biscuits, can’t wait for Christmas to open them! We wish you and everyone at Capstone a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”

As well as celebrating the long service of carers, we are delighted to celebrate the long service of staff including Maggie Andrews, who has completed 10 years’ service with Capstone. Maggie is a finance officer in the Devon office who facilicates the important role of Carer payments and contracts with local authorities.

This year’s Christmas party was probably the first of the season on the 3rd December but is wasn’t lacking in Christmas cheer. The ‘Ringos’ activity was brilliant and the children, carers and staff all had a go – Gill took particular delight in sliding down the slopes and it all made it very good fun for the children.

Capstone South West had a lovely party buffet and JD provided a swiss roll that he had made at school which was delicious and all got eaten! As well as JS’s homemade shortbread biscuits made at cubs. Susan’s hot dogs warmed on a camping stove were an inspired addition to the party which also were scoffed with none wasted! We had crackers and party bubbles, the atmosphere was great!

New friendships developed, particularly notable between Z and J, they were little and large!  C and T hit it off and C managed the activity with her arm in plaster! BW enjoyed the slopes with J and his carer’s nephew, they were definitely the ‘cool’ older boys but they all got stuck in and had a great time.

Feedback from our children:

C enjoyed it very much. She had a good chat with T and they had a lot in common.

J said “ I loved it and it was fantastic. I really enjoyed it” Big thanks from this house.

Julie said “thank you they really enjoyed it” (T and O)

Gill and Les said “ thank you it was great, let us know when the next get together is”

S and Z thought it was great and Z wants to visit the ski slope again soon.

All in all it was great fun and I think we’ll be returning to Torquay ski centre, based at the PGL site, it was great fun. Bring on the carers Christmas meal next!

Capstone Midlands have made 14 boxes for the elderly who will be alone in the community this Christmas.

The organisation Capstone Midlands are supporting is Friends of North Solihull’s ‘No one should have no one at Christmas’ campaign. Volunteer’s and organisers deliver these parcels to the community before Christmas and spend some time with them when delivering the parcels.

We focus so much of supporting the next generation its important to remember our elders, that’s why we have chosen to support this cause for the last 2 years.

Next year we plan on supporting women’s refuges.
